The Old Skool

Now I've been listening to a lot of old tracks lately, taking a walk down memory lane. So many experience the phenomenon of hearing a track you haven't heard in tttiiimmmee and it taking you right back to a particular moment in your life. I really love that feeling, music is something else but that's another post for another day...

What's been doing it for me lately? Well, 112 It's Over Now, Faith Evans - Soon As I Get Home, Mariah Carey - Always Be My Baby, Whitney Houston - Its Not Right But It's OK, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Toni Braxton - He Wasn't Man Enough For Me, Celine Dion - All By Myself, Soul 4 Real - Candy Rain, Jagged Edge - Let's Get Married, TLC - Where do I even begin with them, Janet Jackson & Blackstreet - I Get So Lonely, Blackstreet - Don't Leave Me Girl... ...oh gosh there's so much more that I am forgetting right now. Now when I say old skool, I don't mean in general I mean personally. These are songs that take me back to my early teens, Bishop Challoner and Clapton Girls days, going round my aunts to watch the box on cable when it was still exclusive, making up dance routines round Caroline's house, saving every penny I got...alright, begging my ma to buy me Monica's Miss Thang album (classic), having the Bodyguard soundtrack on tape and playing it til it wouldn't play no more mimicking Whitney...good times!

But back to present day and Jill Scott has released her 4th studio album I believe, don't quote me on that. It's a very mature album reminiscent of her 1st album. What I love about Jill is that she doesn't mince her words, you know what she is feeling in every song. They (her songs) paint very vivid imagery and with that in mind this album is graphical indeed. She is newly single and it's funny coz I heard the album through and thought my gosh is she still married? Something on the album made me think otherwise and it turns out she isn't...that's what I mean about her being able to make you feel whstever she is. I've seen this woman live and O..MY..GOSH! She's gonna be back in December and I am going - I proclaim it by faith!

Here's one of my favourite tracks...it's the way she sings it honestly!

A certain person has gotten me hooked slightly more than I want to, to T-Pain. Now I was kinda slow with this one and I don't know what it is about him but people lurve what he does. Kanye calls him a genius to which this certain person I know agreed whole-heartedly. Now I don't know about that but I gotta admit I do have a couple of his tracks on repeat. But I cannot listen to the album in entirety, it annoys me. I don't wanna know about your girls stomach, or that convo where his girl tells him she got AIDS and he's like 'AIDS? No worries schweetie, i love you we gonna work it out' HA! I imagine that what really would happen is they would try to work it out but they'd argue instead, he'd go to the bar possibly with Akon and meet someone else may be the Bartender...oh wait, de ja vu!

On rotation

Also I love Janelle Monae's music. It's great. I am not sure where to begin with describing her, she's a female Prince (even though Prince is female looking lol). I am not late, I have known about her for a very long time now. Her first of 5 concept albums is out now. Here's the first single off of it...
